I have so much to share I don't know where to start....
Hubby took me to an empty parking lot, and I drove for the first time since the stroke. It was slow and in circles, but I was able to do it. He had to help me get in the car, but I finally drove. My sweet friend whom I totally trust with the kids was watching the kids, so I knew they were ok and I agreed to try. It was pretty scary at first, and I only went to the left, but then I tried turning right and was able to. It was really like they say, once you learn to "ride a bike" you never forget.
Today was evaluation day in OT. I was able to move my arm 20 more degrees than last time, and I could squeeze with my right hand with 2 more pounds of pressure. That doesn't sound like much but it is a lot when you think about the fact that I couldn't even move my own arm, or force my own hand open a few months ago. At least my therapist was happy with my improvement. My 4 year old son is still stronger than me, but it is getting stronger.
Oh wow! What an amazing update! I can't believe you got behind the wheel already! I imaging that must give you a sense of independence and freedom, even if it is just in the carpark as yet!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, 20 degrees is a big deal! We worked hard to get 20 degrees of movement back in my daughters arm, so that is fantastic too!
Are the issues stemming from the compressed nerve getting any better?
