unsolicited Movie review: Dolphin Tale

Hubby came home from Wal-Mart (yes, we have one of those in the middle of nowhere Alaska!) with a movie in the bag. It was bought for the kids, but we always pre-view movies before we let them watch them. Two of the four have very sensitive little spirits, and it just isn't worth it to have them get upset. That, and we really just are "those parents".

Hubs and I had snacks and snuggled down to watch it after the kids went to bed last night. What a treat!

I would recommend Dolphin Tale to any family. It was very clean. AND, to my pleasure, it painted homeschooling (even unschooling informally) in a good picture. It is a true story as well. We really enjoyed it, and can't wait to have family movie night with the kids so that they can enjoy it as well.

  1. I am not exactly sure what you mean by "sensitive spirits", but my kids cannot watch anything scary - and by that I mean anything with tension, frightening bad guys and eerie music. So they can't do most Disney movies including the likes of The Little Mermaid, Monsters inc etc. But I am trying to stretch them a little (Bananas in PJs gets old quickly!)and am on the lookout for movies they might be able to handle. I don't suppose this one would fit the bill?

  3. Sandi, that is how my kids are as well. We watch very few Disney movies because the bad guys are just so scary. That, and I get really shocked at the evil portrayed in many Disney movies...but that is another bandwagon I won't jump on now. There is a sad moment or two when the dolphin loses her tail, and when they think they might have to put her down. Also, it delicately deals with soldiers being injured in Iraq (touched a soft spot for me there, for sure).Other than that, it is very much a "feel good" movie. The triumph over a disability makes the sad moments worth it. In the end, you will smile and be glad you watched it.

  5. We preview movies, too, even for the teenagers! I guess that puts is in the "those parents" crowd.

I don't know what's up with Disney, they aren't for little children. I could also wax eloquent about Disney starting most movies by killing off the momma, but instead, I'll just thank you for the movie review! :)

  6. WE LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! I checked reviews online and took the kids to the theater to see it. THEY LOVED IT!!! They loved that homeschooling was involved. As soon as it was on DVD we bought it. The kids packed it in our movies for the trip. The best part; yes that is where I was born ;) My dad and mom graduated from Clearwater high school ;)
