Blessed by Strangers

Today, for the first time in 13 months, I got to go on a date with my man! Hubby and I actually ate lunch AT A RESTAURANT without the children.

Nana is here.

She rocks, don't ya think? Nana is one of the few souls on this earth that will watch my 4 kiddos on purpose without cringing.

So, that in itself was a blessing.

Then, the waitress walks up and hands us a gift card with a balance on it. She informs us that a patron earlier had purchased $100 in gift cards for a table with soldiers. Those soldiers then passed the remaining balance on to us (Hubs was in uniform since we met at lunch time).

I was stunned. Our meal out was paid for by a stranger that never even saw our face, and the grace of fellow soldiers who chose to share the blessing they had been given.

Never before has that happened!

I wish I could thank them for what they did.... but like my wise friend Jenn, instead, I will look for a way, a day, a moment to pay it forward.

Wouldn't life be more amazing if we all took the time to bless a stranger once in a while?

Glad you could share some alone time with your hubby!
PS I've just been following your blog for a bit here now, and I really wonder how you ended up in Alaska.

  4. Marian, HI! We landed here by God's grace and sense of humor. Hubby had to make a list of assignment choices, and after a lot of prayer, talking with bloggers like Mrs. Mama Hen (above) and Melissa, we really felt that Alaska was where our family was supposed to be, at least for the 3 years the Army put us here...if not longer. So, of the 14 possible choices, we ranked Alaska #1, and of course, the Col. in charge of assignments was doing the happy dance that someone chose this assignment instead of being forced to take it. BUT, we LOVE it here...except when it is really dark and really cold...then I get a big Wonky ;-)

  5. What a blessing! Not only to have your mom, but to have a date AND have someone else's generosity passed on to you & hubby.

Glad your mom made it up there okay.

  7. The day that my dh came home from his deployment we went out to eat to celebrate on our way home from the base. I was completely surprised when the waitress came up and said that our dinner for the 5 of us (well 4 meals - Meghan just shared) was taken care of. Turns out a table of about 5 or 6 business men wanted to pay for our dinner in thanks for dh's service. That was the first time that had ever happened, well when I have been with dh! Such a blessing and it meant so much to us.
